Evaporation...

I know evaporation is inevitable, but my question is weather it is good or not. I have glass inserts over the top of my tank, and it seems to be reducing the amount of evaporation occurring. I am upgrading my lighting from 45w to 395w, and i know the evap rate is going to increase tremendously. Should the glass inserts be removed or not?

I would remove the glass tops, with them off you will have more evaporation which will in turn mean good gas exchage. Evaporation is not only good for gas exchange but it will also keep the tanks temp at a more stabile level, especially since you are upgrading your lighting it will help with temps.

Thanks, am I losing or gaining anything with them on right now? I guess what am asking, for future reference, is how my tank is being adversly effected by not allowing the evaporation to occur?

BTW, tops have been removed!

Thanks,

jason

As for not allowing evaporation, you will be trapping gases that are trying to escape from the water, possibly higher temperatures . And the problem of having a ton of saltcreep form over everything.
