Experience with AGA overflows?

Does anyone have any experience with AGA overflows and plumbing setups? Im having a horrible air in my overflow pipe issue.

The problem I'm having is with the Overflow Accesory Setup. I have it all hooked up according to directions. I have the overflow running down and splitting between the sump/refugium controlled by a ball valve above the refugium. The problem I am having is it sounds like there is tons of air being sucked through the overflow piping. I am running 1" piping throughout. At my refugium location which with the ball valve open is a straight down 2" pipe, with it open fully and all water going to my refugium I am getting a ton of air, and gurgling from all the air. With the ball valve half way closed I get tons of air at both the refugium and the sump.

Would putting a 1" to like 3/4 or 1/2" reducer help get rid of all the air? Or is there another problem?

Take a look around or do a search on Google for durso standpipes. You dont have to buy one from them, really easy to mod from HD or Lowes. THis should fix your problem, it doesnt look like you are doing anything incorrectly, they are just noisy.

Good luck.

I agree about the Durso.

Alternatively if anyone is reading this and has a noisy HOB overflow- i just stick some scrap bits of Pura pads in so they lean against the little pipe and block the sucking noise.. It is a little disturbing when your overflow sounds like theresa 2000lb guy in your sump sucking on your overflow like its a slurpie straw.. haha

overflows

here it is in a nut shell. overflows is like being married. you have to find the fine line between to much noise or not enough flow and sometings getting stoped up all toghter;)

so your using a durso? if so i had to make the hole on the top of the elbow bigger on mine it was making alot of noise when i first got it. now its almost dead silent

as far as i know he is using the stock so called durso that all-glass sends with the megaflow tanks and he is not pumping too much. i think his issues are with the way he is routing his drain to the sump/refug

I have a new AGA RR tank and picked up the standard AGA durso kit. I am instead running two durso from both my drilled holes for more flow. I will build my own durso's for this and hope it all goes well. I wanted more flow but only have the one overflow in my 90aga rr tank.
