experience with fire gobies

Hi, I wanted to know more about fire gobies, because I am going to get one. I read about them in books, and I also want information and advice from somebody who had or has them. This is a list of what I want to know.

1. Are they hardy fish?
2. Are they pretty easy to feed?
3. What should I feed them? I know to start out, I have to feed them brine shrimp. Can you feed them tiny pieces of raw shrimp?
4. When they are frightened, do they jump often or sometimes?
5. Are they good begginer fish?
6. Should I get 1 fish or more?
7. If you have any advice or any extra info, please tell me

(I am aware that these fish jump when frightened, so I have a top on my tank)

They are fairly easy and hardy fish, they are just timid. I have always had firefish and I love them. They eat whatever I throw in the tank. They do tend to hide when first introduced. I didnt see mine for like 3 weeks before he came out but I had other inhabitants before him. Also make sure to not mix them, because they will eventually kill each other. I believe they can be paired, but im not quite sure as I dont have mine paired. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.

M/F pairs are possible, but difficult to come by. More than one is possible in a large tank, but you're best off only getting one. Firefish are notorious jumpers so make sure you have the tank well sealed with a glass top or netting. They go right through egg-crate. Firefish are pretty timid and will not do well with more aggressive fish. Do not mix them with damsels, dotty-backs, etc. If mixed with peaceful fish they tend to come out more. I've found the purple to be "tougher" than their red cousins.

I agree. Except I am not sure about purple being toughter.

I think my purple is the exception to the rule where firefish are concerned my purple is in a 215g with royal gramma tangs, large angels,foxface dwarf angels damsels including a pair of gs maroons.for aprox 3 years and counting

eats anything and everything i feed the tank but prefers the very small pieces..ate from day 1

is out and about the majority of the time tank lights are on spends about 20% of his out time 1/2 way across the tank from his hiddy hole. he is spooked more by me approaching the tank that other fish moving about and can make it 1/2 way across the 6ft tank to his bolt hole in 1/100 of a second and i have never seen him in the top 3/4 of the tank

in contrast my red firefish was fished out of the sump at least once a week and he was the biggest fish in the 30g reef
