It sounds like mantis will not damage my corals, right? So If I go ahead with the corals and leave the little clarkii in the sump/refugium until I know what it is I think that might be my best route for now. I just hope that doesn't crash the little tank because I don't have the plumbing in yet. It would have to run with the live sand and the refugium as its only biological filter. I'm hoping water changes will satisfy the need.

Well, I took all the LR , or almost all of the LR out of the 5.5 and put it into the 30 G cube. I did it through the day, but I don't know if that was too fast. I think I'll do a partial water change and move that tank into position below the 30 G cube. I suppose this is as good a time as ever to move it.

How long will a mantis stay hidden?

Well, he's alive. Whatever he is, I heard it loud and clear today. I suppose the next step after I verify the nitrates are steady at zero is to find a goby and hope?

There just happens to be a nice healthy one at the LFS.

If it's a mantis the goby will die?

At least my tank is an oceanic cube with thicker glass.

I was looking at the variety of goby fish available to use if it is a pistol shrimp. I wonder if one color pattern is more interesting a fish to see than another. Anyone have an opinion on this?
