Extending Aquarium Stand Depth?

Hi,

The aquarium stand I have is 18.5" depth.
The Nuvo 25G tank I want to get has 19.7"
depth.

Would either of these work?
1. Bolt 1.5" square tube to the back of the stand
2. Bolt 2 layers of 3/4" plywood to the back of the stand

Whats best way to mount and support the
extra depth without having to have massive
panels?

Judging by the picture of the stand I do not see enough meat to hold a bolt or even large screws.
I think I would use the plywood and glue it then screw it every 4 inches into predrilled holes. Put a little glue into the screw holes too. I would use 4 inch deck screws.
Tightbond wood glue or thick CA.
 
How long would of a plywood would you use? Full height of the stand, top to the bottom? Hoping to avoid that if possible.
Just brainstorming. Might not even want to try it depending on risks.
 
Or cut a piece of 3/4 plywood 1/2 inch larger than the tank and place it under the tank on top. Paint it black. 1/4 inch shows all around the tank.
 
I think you'd be fine with either option as long as the load transfers to the floor. With the tube, one across the full width bridging pieces down each leg. Plywood could work the same way but I would rip the pieces a bit wider for stability, say 4 inches.

I am actually consinsering this. I bought
finished tabletop 20" x 36" x 3/4".

So it will overhang. It has max weight of
100lbs though. That weight is equal weight across the entire tabletop supported by the stand minus the overhang?

How much weight would be put on the non
supported overhang areas which is .6" front and back?

Would it still work?

The google ai says the 1.2" overhang needs to be supported or will sag over time.

I asked the question differently.
Since it's rimless tank, I asked

If surface has 20" width x 36", with
dimensions 19.7" x 24 and UDL loading
of 400lbs, what is the loading for 0.6 width?

Answer:
Loading for 0.6" width section of the aquarium is 12.18 lbs.

Does that seem correct?

The tank has no frame and is flat on the bottom?
It isnt the weight. It is the bending moment. In this case of the glass and tabletop combined.
The edges do not support the full weight of the tank. Only the weight of a thin bit of water and the gas sides. The overhang would only be 1/2 inch and only on 2 sides.

In your case the beam would be the bottom of the tank and the top combined and that must resist bending by the force of the weight of the sides.
Stuff in the middle of the tank will place a load straight downward into the stand and to the floor.

In short you will be fine.
A rimmed tank might place all its weight on the perimeter and that would be a different case. I think you would be fine then too because it I supported on 2 sides.

Tabletop area is larger than tank dimensions, so no overhang from tank.

I agree with a rimless tank you will be find without bracing the plywood.
