So I want to set up a 40 breeder w/ 20L sump, and am having trouble deciding on how to do the overflow. The return pump might be an Eheim 1250 which is 200 gph @ 4' head, so I'd like two one inch drains, and a one inch emergency. My two best choices are an internal box measuring about 4" tall, 4" deep, and 6+" long. Or do an external glass box 4x6x6+. I'm kinda scared having having a box of water hanging off the back of the aquarium if it's only supported by the 4" tall side walls. Is that enough to hold it on? I like the idea of an external box because I could then put a slim internal coast to coast skimmer that will work and look better. I've got a picture below of the sketchup I made for the external box. The skimmer would only come out 2". Does anyone else have an external overflow on their 40BR?
