Eye Issue

Today I noticed this clear/whitish blotch show up on my C. deborae. It is just behind the pupil in the right eye. It is slightly bigger than what the photo shows in person, but I can't get a better picture due to the dark coloration. The fish is not eating yet and came into my possession this past Thursday.

Should I be worried? Should I treat with any meds?

I haven't noticed any swelling yet, but just the cloudy portion in the eye. Maybe the beginning signs of popeye?

Epsom salt (1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water) will help ease the swelling if it's due to injury. If it's something disease-related, you'll need to treat with antibiotics. Furan-2 is a fish med that's usually easy to find and contains two different antibiotics which should help.

Starting to doubt popeye as of now. No swelling in the eye. Got a video and additional picture of the fish. The beginning of the video shows the eye quite well, better than I thought it would.

If this was my fish, I would treat with antibiotics. Maracyn 1 & 2 are expensive, but IME are a lot "gentler" on the fish than some other antibiotics I have used. Do you have any means of biological filtration other than that LR? That's the only problem I see.

Did you buy this specimen off of DD? Just curious. I saw one on there and almost pulled the trigger myself. Beautiful fish!

There is an HOB filter with two biowheels on it, other than that it is the live rock. Would you treat with both Maracyn 1 and 2 or just one or the other? This specimen is not from DD, almost did buy a second one in an attempt to pair. Couldn't bring myself to it though. Thanks!

I always use them together because it takes both to cover gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial infections. Another (cheaper) option would be Furan-2. It even says it treats "eye cloud":

I've used Furan-2 before with success, but also twice now the fish died very shortly after beginning treatment. That's never happened with Maracyn 1 & 2. My pet theory is the active ingredients in Furan-2 are a bit harsher on the fish. Kind of like when a fish has a bad reaction to copper.

Petco/PetSmart will sometimes carry them. I did a quick check online, and every place I know of seems to be out of stock on one or both right now. Furan-2 would be a suitable alternative. It's just not IME as "easy" on the fish as Maracyn and it doesn't have a built-in appetite stimulant.

Does Maracyn plus do what both Maracyn and Maracyn 2 would do?

Maracyn Plus has two different antibiotics and kills both gram negative and positive bacteria. Maracyn kills gram positive, Maracyn 2 kills gram negative. I'd go with Plus just to be on the safe side. It will kill your biological filter though.

I got a nice Tang with a similar issue, only mine went full popeye after a while....

I know this won't be much help, but if you can afford the meds: do so...just in my opinion, (as already stated) , the price of the anti-biotics might indeed approach the cost of the fish (by the time you get things under control anyway)

my experience: if you do nothing at all, eye issues are about 50/50: half the time they heal themselves; half the time the fish is blind in one eye....
edited to add: my not-so-expert prognosis for that fish is good however...I'm guessing it might be ok after a while with clean water, et
