This is too funny; I just cornered my Huma in a cave in my 125g tank (bc he was eating my snails and crabs). His nose is peaking out of the cave and I think I could even inject him with a syringe. I did a quick search online found clove oil, and then came to RC to find that somebody just did this a month or so ago.

Do you think I can inject the fella to keep the oil as much as possible out of the tank and I am wonder what dosage and concentration.

I wouldn't inject him directly, I expect that would kill him. When I did it I had to remove the rock to get at his cave and pulled him out with some tweesers so he was out for a while. It really didn't take much just 5ml or so into the cave of the 1:50 oil:tank water mix and most of the oil had settled to the top right away, the cave also keeps it fairly localized so not much is needed. I would do a few ml then try to pull him out and into a net asap because he'll wake up fast, also make sure to kill all water flow a few min before. It is a bit hard to tell when they pass out because they don't move much to begin with when in the cave, mine was also under a ledge, and wasn't dosing into an enclosed space but just confined, so I just overestimated on my timming and dose to make sure I didn't have to repeat. Let us know how it goes!

What kind of bio load and corals do you have in the tank?

He is still alive and kicking in that cave. I think a snail crawled in there so he will be okay for the time being. I really do not want to run the risk of having him slip from my fingers and therefore would only feel safe with an injection. He is so fast, I will never be able to catch him without draining my tank.

I would also like to know if there was any reaction to the clove oil by your corals. And what types do you have?

I have a 6 line wrasse I am looking to remove. This method would be great if I could inject some in the hole it sleeps in and then just remove with tweezers.
