aside from flasher wrasses, i was looking for a colorful small fairy wrasse that will add a splash of color and activity. I am a fan of the red velvet fairy wrasse and of course the flame wrasse. Any other ideas?

Red velvet fairy will grow too big and aggressive.

Flame wrasse is a good choice. Other fairy that stay smaller are marjorie, hooded, johnsoni, adornatus etc

Linneatus or Labout's Fairy Wrasse

The 2 species you have suggested get way too large (4-5"+) for a 50g. They are very active swimmers and need swimming room. I honestly think a flame would be uncomfortable in a 50 as they are active swimmers as well. Perhaps a lubbocki, rubripinnis, or a whip-fin fairy would be better choice and much more afordable.

Red velvet can be aggressive. I rate mine right up with my Pyles for aggression. The Flame wrasse is pricey but they are really showy. IMO they are not the strong swimmers many of the other wrasse are so they tend to just hang out more and look cool. You could also check out the Orange back wrasse. Very cool color, not too big, reasonably priced and yet not extremely common. The problem is there are so many choices. Just make sure your tank is covered if you plan to add any wrasse, they are jumpers.
