I read the sticky in regards to the fallow period to eradicate ich. What about other parasites and infections (bacterial and fungal)? Is there anything out there that could survive more than 9 weeks without a host?

Good question. I don't even know if an expert in the proper science could answer this without knowing the exact bacteria of fungus involved. My knowledge is pretty limited; but I think most bacteria and fungi that causes problems with our fish exists just about everywhere. Like common human bacteria. They only become a problem when a weakened host becomes available. Any air or water sample could reveal countless bacteria and fungal spores----harmless unless the right bug meets the right target. I don't think you can avoid the bacteria that infects wounds or the fungal spores that do the same. But wound bacteria or fungus can't attack an unwounded fish. (Just a guess at your underlying question.)
