Ok have two 4" fans in my canapy....one blowing in and the other out. My temp runs at 79.9 81.2....... fans seem to blow across the lights and not the water....the way it is now pull most of the heat out, but came up with a idea hopefully I can knock a couple of points of my temp. The fan blowing in I made a air deflector will know more when the lights come on....:)
BTW the pins are just temporary...if works I will mount with screws

my temp in my tank is 78 to 79 whend the ligths are on and the ligths off drops to 76 and they are not on all day the are time by the octopus controler

Manny Im limited to space in my canapy, as you see in the picture I have no room on top to install fans so I have them mounted on the sides...I would have like to go with a 4.5 in fan but no space...
BTW I have a 6" fan in the back pulling out the heat

the refectors are about a 1/4 from the bottom part of the lid.....
Im fine with the temp 79.4/ 81.2.....with the defector installed Im at 79.4/81.0...so I dropped -.02

I'm very curious to hear how it turns out for you. Please keep me posted on your results.
Well Pat it did make a differents:
Temp before 79.9 81.2
Temp Now 79.4/81.0
Ive taking both reading about same time 24 hours later, plus my data log in the aquacontroller.
I really wasnt having a heat problem. but alway looking for new ideas....

They make plenty of ducting for PC fans. I have been custom building PC's and modifying cases for a while now. I have a couple bins full of weird duct crap and fans and controllers. I need to get my creative gears in motion.

I was thinking of some type of duct for the fan to put it at a 45 degree angle......Im still at the drawing board

You want to mount the fan at 45 angle right brian?

Ok what about this...
You know the dryer covers that roger uses. Since they would normally route the air dowward over the wate surface why not mount that to the canopy, then mount the fan to it. You would have to cut out a opening for the fan and mount the duct upside down. Having it upside down would point the fan downward at and angle. the fan would then blow air through the opening.

It mght sound confusing but I hope it helps. It seems like it would work in my mind at least. LOL

Mike No its not confusing.....Im using the same idea for my rear fan which pulls the heat out of the canapy......The side fans I have no room for the vent...:)

I made a ton of different ducts and holes in my PC case when I was trying to get every extra degree gone that I could.

Another thing to remember is that for a fan to be truly efficient you need to have enough space around it. For instance, if you have a 120mm fan, you need at least 120mm of space in front of it for it to flow at it's rated CFM speed.
