Got a nice green Favia from a local store. It looked fine for several weeks and then the top area started to lighten (not completely bleach) in a circular area. A couple of the polyps in this lightened area appear to have had it. Mouths gaping 1/4 inch in the worst case with some skeleton visible through the opening. The sides of the colony appear okay.
Can't figure what happened. Water parameters good (NH3, NO2, NO3 all zero, pH 8.1-8.35, SG 1.025, Ca++ 380-420, alk 8-11).
Any chance it will bounce back? Is the whole colony history? If these polyps die off and the others survive will the remaining ones generate new polyps to cover the gap or do I wind up with a permanent defect in the colony.
Any advice or thoughts appreciated.
Thanks,
Neal
