Feather Dusters

I just bought 2 feather dusters yesturday and was woundering if it is normal for them to be closed most of the time but to elongate sometimes. Are they just getting use to the water like corals?

Yea give em time and they should come around. What kind of flow do you have them in?

They are in a current that moves their crown around.

I was thinking about adding some to my tank as well but read that they don't last long and just randomly die.

Is that true?

Well Ive experienced both situations. When I first got into the hobby I wasnt able to keep em very long but I did alot of dumb s**t too and was impatient. So Im sure that had something to do with it. After takin a 5 year break I'm taking things alot slower and realize now that less is more and have kept dusters and a coco worm with great success. I think it comes down to correct placement so they get decent flow and keeping a somewhat "dirty tank".
