Featherduster flipped it's wig

with pics about my clownfish hosting in my featherduster.

Today I noticed my featherduster's "feathers" are now detatched from it's tube, and the tube looks like it has been pinched closed at the top.

I've read other posts about featherdusters moving to new tubes, or making new tubes or something.

So is this what mine has done? Is it most likely still in this tube and will grow new feathers? Or has it left this tube and is now somewhere else in the tank?

Do I need to remove the clump of feathers now laying on the sand in the tank?

I had posted in that thread that I was surprised the feather duster didn't get upset.

I am thinking he is upset and is showing it by throwing his top. I had one that recovered (grew new top) and one that actually vacated his tube and then died.

Still wondering if anyone has any guesses on my featherduster dilema? Should I leave the old tube in the water? It is still standing up straight.

If the worm had left the tube would the tube be "fallen over"?

my duster blew his head off as well when my anemone decided to sit directly underneath him.
As of yet i havent seen him re-appear anywhere in the tank and that was about a week ago. Ive left the tube in there for now (its just dirt and worm spit right??)
Someone replied to my post that when theirs officially died there was no chemical spike from the body.
I figure if hes REALLY dead in there that the cleanup crew would be going crazy trying to get in the tube. so far it hasnt happened.
how bigs your tank? and how solid is your cleanup crew? would be my only worries

he is probably still alive in the tube...if you very gentle touch the tube, you will feel him moving in there

i would leave the tube where it is

ditto, also my Ocellaris that did the same thing has NOT caused mine to throw its feathers.

This normally occurs due to malnutrition. They will in an attempt to gather food shed the feathers, and grow back new smaller ones in hopes of finding a smaller more plentiful food supply.

I dose DT's every 3rd day in that tank just for the Featherduster and in 2 years, he has never lost a feather (knocking on wood here) I think this converts to 8 or so bottles of DTs at $30+ each for a total of $250+ to keep my $10 Feather duster happy...

and my wife thinks I am nuts, Hah... show her a thing or 2

Even if he were to bite the dust, your cleanup crew should take care of any remains.

Soumds like he was just a little upset and might regrow his top.

I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS TRUE OR NOT BUT MY LFS SAID THEY "THROW" THEIR FEATHERS ONCE IN AWHILE AND REGROW THEM, I AM JUST GUISSING THAT IT'S A GROWING PROCESS??? MINE DID THE SAME THING BUT THERE WAS NOTHING IN MY TANK TO BOTHER IT AND NOW IT'S COMING OUT BETTER THAN BEFORE.

I work in a number of offices and for some reason in the medical field the coders and office staff insist on all caps...no foul I just had to pick on someone for something forgive the old guy

i think i saw the stub of a worm sticking out of his tube last night, at least i hope it was my feather duster. too quick for me to get a good look but i thought i saw little feathers. about 10 days since he disappeared. DONT GIVE UP!!!
