Hey,
I have a branching hammer with about 20 heads by now, and i have never fed him in the 2 years that ive had him, but i want to give it a shot.. maby he will be happier. Should i feed every seperate head though? or just 2-3?

Thank You-

_Adam

I have hammers as well and from what I have seen, it gets enough from light. I would like to give it a shot and feed them but dont know what.

Just about any type of meat seafood will do. I give mine little pieces of krill, silverside, clam, cyclopeze (sp?) etc.

hope this helps

Daniel

I have never made any effort to feed more than one or two branches of my hammer and it seems to sprout new branches all the time.

branches on hammers are independant, so feeding one or two will have no effect on those branches that are split (not conected by tissues)

If you dump some mysis or bloodworms in the tank and it falls onto the branching hammer, the darn thing will feed itself. My 16+ head hammer does it all the time! No need to target feed!

Aquaman67- I see your a big fan of that stuff. You've recommended it all over RC. IMO LPS need meaty foods. If your gonna feed that is.

"CYCLOP-EEZEÃ"šÃ‚® are a selectively bred, biologically engineered organisms which are cultured in a pristine arctic lake. The CYCLOP-EEZEÃ"šÃ‚® are a decapod (10 legged) crustacean that are instantly characterized by their intense blood-orange coloration.
In fact, the CYCLOP-EEZEÃ"šÃ‚® contain the highest known concentration of the fundamental and critical biological pigment Astaxanthene, accounting for their striking coloration. Complimenting this incredible pigmentation are previously unknown levels of the Highly Unsaturated Fatty Acids (HUFA's) especially those of the famed "omega-3" family. These highest levels of omega-3 HUFA's are essential for larval aquaculture applications and typically exceed forty times (40 X) those obtained from hatching the highest quality Artemia eggs.

The CYCLOP-EEZEÃ"šÃ‚® are voraciously consumed by all animals because they are very rich in the attractant Betaine as well as other palatability factors. Experimental test results at leading academic institutions indicate that the CYCLOP-EEZEÃ"šÃ‚® are highly stimulatory to the immune systems of most aquatic animals thus leading to greatly improved survival."

That stuff is pretty great and yes it is meaty. Because its in a squirt bottle doesn't mean its not meat. You could even blend shrimp, squid and clams enought to squirt. That's the Liquid Life brand stuff that Aquaman recommends. It contains, but is not pure, cylopeeze. LL also makes some good algae mixes as well and another mix called coral plankton or something that I've never tried. My hammers like it when they get a bit of cyclopeeze or some small pieces of krill. All my corals seem to love this stuff. Try it out.

Okay, I'm not totally knocking the stuff here but it doesn't compare to fresh "meaty" (I mean meaty, not liquid) prawns, squid, scallops, etc... If the tentacles can actually grab a piece of food rather than get whatever juices are this stuff puts into the water and quickly gets filtered out or suspends, they will be much happier IME. I think this stuff is much better suited for SPS than LPS that can take down huge pieces of "meaty" food.
