Feed the shrooms?

No they aren't just photosynthetic. Nearly every shroom will eat meaty foods that land on them, and receive nutrition from it, but you do not NEED to feed them. They will feed themselves by eating plankton in the tank and bits of food that land on them when you feed fish or other corals. Photosynthesis is their main source of energy, but target feeding them ones a week will help them grow and propagate quicker.

You don't have to be all that creative with what you feed them. They'll eat just about anything your fish eat, including flake and pellet foods.

I personally like to give mine a little variety just for the heck of it consisting of pellet and flake food once a week or, if I'm feeling motivated, a mixture of mysis shrimp and cyclop-eeze merinated over night in a little bit of salt water and selcon (they love it).

I mostly just feed my ricordeas, but once in a while I'll feed a couple of my discosomas as well.

kiknchikn, whats up? Have you noticed if any one particular food has better results? I have been dropping pellets onto my rics, and they love it... but i want to know if feeding them meaty foods would help them reproduce faster. I also drop some phyto in the tank every other day...

Hey what's up bro. How's your tank coming?

They seem to grow a little faster with the mysis shrimp/cyclopeeze/selcon mixture, since it is probably much more nutritious. It's very hard to say for sure because I haven't been feeding them for that long (maybe 1½ months now) and most of the time I'm feeding them flake food.
