Feeding Anthias

Do Anthias really need to be fed 2 or 3 times a day?? I travel and often have a fish-sitter feed once a day. My current fish could probably go for days between feeding. Finding someone for multiple daily feeding would be difficult. Thanks. R

auto feeder will be ok if you are feeding a small amount. the key is to feed them a little 2-3 time a day and dry will be ok for them.

i feed mine 3-4 times a day. Not sure if that helps but i try to keep them fat so if i leave for a few days they'll be fine w/1 or 0 feedings during those days.

no, it's a regal angel. and she doesn't bother anything....but i've never had zoos or clams in my tank though. she left sps, lps and rics alone though.

hey rickh, you might want to try barletts, dispars or lyretails....they're the hardiest of the anthias i think.

Thanks for the info. I have been checking out a Bartlet's at the LFS. Everyone is happy in my tank--I hate to throw in a trouble maker:) My wife wants a Flame Angel, but many don't consider them reef safe. R

thanks...I have zoo and clam. I prefer dispars over barletts and lyretails but the downside is dispar will get bigger than others.

Absolute amount of food consumed per day is what's important here. Example: If your anthias only eat one or two mysis shrimps per feeding, and then refuse any more, then yes, 3-4-5 feeding per day will be required. If on the other hand your anthias are gluttons, and cram themselves full of mysis to the point they have a marble shaped belly, then sure, you can easily get away with one feeding per day, maybe even less. So really, just saying how often one feeds per day doesn't tell you much

It's sounding like they may not be a good fish for a guy that out of town for several weekends a month. I just feed my clown, wrasse and basslet on Friday morning and they are fine when I return late Sunday. For longer periods I get a fish sitter. Thanks.

Rickh-I think it all depends on the fish like SDguy said. I had a friend that didnt feed his tank for 3 weeks because of a bad algae problem and although it wasnt what I would recommend the anthias (1 male and 6 female squarebacks) were doing just fine like nothing had happened
