i purchased a dwarf zebra lion about a month ago....

the only food he will eat is live brine .....he wont touch frozen...

i have tried wagging the frozen fish in front of him but he has no interest at all....

i posted a week ago and people recommended glass shrimps, but they are hard to get......

does anyone have any other suggestions........

thanks

he will starve on a diet of live brine. glass shrimp truly are the best choice to go with. How long has it been since it has eaten a substantial meal? (not brine) I hate saying this, if you absolutely cant get the shrimp I would buy some feeder fish. mollies are the best. acclimate the mollies to saltwater and try to offer them on the end of a feeding stick. once he starts taking the live fish swap it out with a silverside or a piece of krill. once it starts eating it will recognize you and the stick as a food source and will eventually eat whatever you put on the end of it.

he hasnt eaten for 3 weeks, i will give the feeder's a go

is it worth trying any other frozen foods????
thanks for your help

once he starts eating regularly he should be willing to take anything you put in front of him. do you per chance live near the water? if so it is extremely easy to catch small fish and crustaceans. my lion and triggers love this and during the warm months that is all they eat.

an aquarium told me they can go for months without food and eventually they will take the frozen fish, is there anything else frozen u recommend trying??

krill, silversides, clams, scallops. krill or silversides will be your best bet. lions like to see eyes on their prey. maybe break a head off and try to feed that. I would take what your LFS told you with a grain of salt. If it has been 3 weeks your fish NEEDS to eat, especially if it is young and still growing. I cant stress this enough. even if it is only FW feeders for the moment.

You might also try soaking the frozen food in garlic....let it actually thaw in the garlic, the smell may entice his appetite...

get a molly and hold it in the water with tongs. once he gets use to this get a dead molly and use the tongs once he relise the tongs mean food he will take anything on them.

A baby lion wont have a reserve where he can go months without food 3 weeks much longer and he may starve....

I, too, feed my lion ghost shrimp. I guess I shouldn't, since he will take frozen foods. I got him off live foods by taking a rosy red and putting it in a net and holding it over the tank, then drop it it. A few days later, he took dead rosies, then silversides. It can take months to get him off live foods. It took mine a week to even start eating. Good luck!
