Feeding fish fresh water clams

Did you get them at the bait shop or the LFS? If you got them at the supermarket and they don't stink, just crack them open and give it a good rinse. If you have picky eaters such as butterfly fish or something, you could just drop the clam in the water whole, if not, just chop it up into bite size pieces & feed. GL.

If it doesn't smell REALLY bad, it's probably alright. These things are not necessarily supposed to smell like roses to begin with. FWIW, I just went to the supermarket and got some previously frozen cooked shrimp for some pasta. They definitely had an odor to them, but not that bad.

I used clams from Walmart to entice my Copperband to eat. They're safe, just take them out of the water after a couple hours otherwise they'll foul the tank.
