I don't know if my eel will be able to eat a live clam or if I have to crack it for him. The eel is about 2.5' and the the clams are about 3-4". Just seeing if other people with eels have done this or is the eel not powerful enough. Thanks for the help.

just curious why you would feed him live clams. what kind of eel is it???

alot of morays with acceptions of course will take prepared food pretty well.

some will even take table shrimp pretty well to.

we need to know what kind of eel this is to help. also give us tank size and tankmates and added help

I have 3 morays and they won't eat clams. I can give them shrimp, squid and other stuff and have tried to sneek a clam in and they just won't eat it, like it taste bad. Just my eels $.02

i would crack open clams and feed them the meat if it were me. that being said i havent fed clams to any of my current or past eels. i would think most eels woudlnt just crack open a live clam especially not piscivores

Zebra eel. And I've read that you can feed them live clams. Bought some live clams and wanted to give some to him. It was only $7 for 50ct.

Shrimp, squid and octopus are their natural food. My snowflake has eaten clams but not until they died. You risk added a disease by putting live table clams in your tank.
