??? feeding mysis - how many hours can they sit in tank

Hi, I have not had seahorses before, but I just bought 3 from a local breeder. I didn't know anything about their care, but I have learned a bit. They are in a 34 gal cube which has been cycled for months but only had hermits, pepperment shrimp, and coral. I now have the temp at 72 (through the use of an overhead fan). I have reduced the flow by aiming the powerheads towards the top of the tank. I added sticks for the seahorses to wrap around. The seahorses are Erectus (red color) and were born the end of April. I have a tall clear plastic container (the quart soup type) with a hole drilled in the bottom and a stick through the bottom and I use a plastic tube to pour the mysis to the bottom of the container and the seahorses eat from that. How long can I leave the food in the container? I understand that seahorses need to continually eat, so I will feed once or twice a day, and just leave the mysis in there so the seahorses can eat whenever they want..(kind of like my self-feeding dogs)....Is this a good idea? I will rinse the container out before adding fresh mysis. I will feed 1/2 cube at a time since they dont seem to eat much at all. Thanks for your help!!!

Born the end of April, wow they must be little. Congrats on them. That's great you have them eating from a dish. When they are that young, you'll definitely want to feed as often as possible. I have some fry that were born mid-March, and I'm feeding two or three times a day, four times on the weekends, siphoning left-overs 2 hours after putting food in. It's not good to leave the mysis in for longer than a couple hours, it starts to decay and grow bacteria really quickly, which can make them sick.

Congrats on your new horses. They sound beautiful. Please post pics of them. Like Felicia said, don't leave the mysis in for too long and I would keep their tank extra clean because they are so young... can you tell their sex yet?
