Is that regular instant ocean or the reef stuff. I've been using instant ocean reef crystals and it seems to be working for me - but that's not saying much because that's all I've ever used.
I agree...I would avoid land veggies, but not worry about phosphates. Any algae you grow in your fuge will have "fed" on phosphates. Stay as natural as possible. And...beautiful fish!!!
Thanks mflamb, I'm really glad I asked the question here. I've been feeding him different "Store" purchased veggies and it looks like a no, no. I mainly wanted to make sure I was providing a good variety to keep him and the rest of the group health. It seems like the nori and the formula 2 are the main veggies that everyone is giving. I'll stick with that for the most part. These fish are fun
If you do any diving and spend some time studying the reef, you will see that Tangs don't have a huge variety on their plate. I believe we can do a quality job of feeding with the natural stuff available and supplement with Selcon and other vitamins.
u don't see it b/c they eat it. there's a cycle. light > grow > eaten > pooped > light > grow > eaten > indefinite. just like the universe. expanding until it reaches absolute zero and death or until it implodes on itself and starts all over. i often ponder why it seems like men are way more drawn to this hobby of caring for living jewels. anyone think it's a man thing, along the lines of some kind of god complex ?
regular instant ocean.
matt I for one don't do it for a God complex issue. I just loved watching the interaction between the animals in my tank. fish grazing and corals blowing in the current. feeding the corals and watching a polyp that looks like a weed actually take in food. the sheer beauty of having part of something so amazing right in your living room is overwhelming .I think it's sad for someone to do it for God complex reasons but hey I think I know several people that do it for that reason. they are the ones that I let ruin it for me.
Or could it be all the techie things? And are you certain most are men or is it the women setup their tanks and do the mainteance etc and let things happen. Men on the other hand have to get the latest gadgets, new fangled items and they are the ones always in the LFS? You know bigger is better - right? Look at the lighting threads. I only put this in for a laugh - PLEASE do not take it personal .
I see lots of women in the hobby. I think a better thing to say is men get more obsessed with having the best normally. women are more likely to enjoy it. I did fall prey to that one. not for competition but just because I wanted to see it better. when I wash and wax my bike it's never shiny enough. when I play guitar no matter how good or bad I am it's never good enough. I play guitar in my room by myself so it's not for anyone but myself but I still suck. I have been playing alot longer than I have been into fish tanks. I haven't hosted a club meeting or even joined because it's not about competition it's all for my wife and I. not being a jerk because anyone is more than welcome to come check it out anytime but they aren't the point behind it's existance.
