Female clownfish

Hello again,

I've been hoping my pair of clownfish will mate for well, as long as I've had them lol. So I've been reading as much as I can on this site about how to tell if your clowns are getting ready to lay eggs...

I've seen a few people say that their females start to get very large bellies and stop eating.

Well my female is getting a HUGE belly, however, she does eat. But not much. I feed the other fish 3x daily (I have baby mollies in the tank and their always hungry and I can't help but give in its so cool watching them eat)....every time I feed she goes up with the other fish, eats a small flake or two, them starts spitting them out and goes to the bottom of the tank...the male follows her down, hangs around her for a second then swims halfway up the tank (sort of looks like hes asking her to come with him its cute) she attempts to eat a flake or two more, spits them out and goes to the cave again, this goes on until all the food is eaten a few minutes later. This happens no matter what I feed them.

Now I'm not worried about her, because I've heard its completely safe for fish to not eat for days. I'm just curious if maybe the combination of her not eating much and getting a big belly could be an indicationof possible egg laying? Or is she just getting bigger...

I'm not quite privy to any information on not eating.... But I do know, before they lay, they will set a spot, and continually clean it, and defend it, before they lay the eggs there, and continue to fan and defend it afterwards.

yeah, I have heard that, they've had the spot picked out for months now lol. Even after I added the mollies (a month or so old addition at this point (had them for a week, then they had babies who are now 3 weeks old) the clownfish kept their little cave, just outside, maybe 3 inches away they clean and rub on a rock constantly. They love that rock, the baby mollies are allowed near it but the bigger two are definately not alowed near that rock. Its funny to watch how they interact.
