Filling 'er up

It is almost time to add water to my tank, but i can't make up my mind on how to do it. I currently do not have all the funds to get an RODI unit. I plan on just getting my topoff and water changes from Kermits after the inital fillup until i get an RODI. So i see myself having a couple options.


1) Buying a few jugs and making multiple trips to Kermits to fill it up.

2) Initally fill it with treated tap water and just replace it through water changes and what not with RODI. (Once i put non treated water in, will the "bad stuff" be in the tank for good?)

Any input or suggestions would be great. Trying to not make any mistakes or cut any corners down the home stretch.

easiest way, borrow others jugs and make one big trip.

How big is the tank? I have four 7 gallon containers you could borrow if you need them.

When I first set up my tank I had no RODI unit and Kermits is a good hour and 45 min away so filling up with tap water was my only choice. I used tap water for about 4 months until I got my RO/DI unit and a TDS meter and tested my tap water which was about 115 ppm. From what I've heard memphis has around 80 to 90 ppm in most cases (unless it is a real old house). I do a weekly water change (about 5 gallons on a 75 gallon tank) and my tank is about 7 months old with very little, to no algae. This was my experience and it may not work for everybody, but I bet if you took some tap water somebody in the club (myself include) they would be glad to test your water.

i left 2 7 gallon jugs at kermits for chris. it was still there today. u might want to check and u can barrow them if that helps any.

I have access to a 5000 gallon honey wagon truck that we could drain, rinse and run a hose directly from the salt tanks in kermits to the 12000 gph centrifugal pump on the front bumper? I figure we could fill the tank in less than 5 min but it might take us half a day to get ready
Tank might be a tad gamey for a spell but you wouldn't have to put a dead shrimp in it to start the biologial action.

You also forget that I work at Kermit's on Saturday's. I could just leave the containers there for you.

Awesome, i will keep that in mind. I am still trying to decide on getting a small RODI unit or not.

Best purchase I ever made was the RO unit. I found one that has a
1:2 ration for ro to waste so I don't run as much water down the drain.
