Filling your tank

Curiousity question - for your intial fill of your tanks what type of water are you using? E.g., treated tap water; RO water; NSW?

In the pasted I always used treated tap water to make my salt water for the intial set up. Once the tank was cycled I use only RO for my waterchanges. However I am curious what other people do in this situation. I am about to fill my 220 and trying to decide whether to go my usual route or fill with R/O salt or NSW.

That said, to process 250+gallons through my RO system would take forever and purchasing 250+ gallons of RO or Saltwater would require lots of trips to my LFS. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.

My initial fill of my 300 gallon tank was with RODI water. I just ran the hose from the from the RO to the tank. I think it took 5 days. It is a pain to wait that long, I think it is good to start off with clean water.

RO/DI water is the way you go. For having a 220g set up you should invest in a RO/DI filter. Check out Airwater&ice. They have headers on the main pages for RC and great prices/products. Check out the typhoon series.

RO/DI water here and I have a unit but also got some from LFS close by. I can get 5 gals for about $1.50 so had the wife make a few trips with 9-5g jugs at a time for me :).....the fish store filled them and put them back in the truck so she didn't have to. It made filling my 210g go a little faster than waiting for the unit at home to do it
