Filter Socks

What's everyone's opinion on the use of filter socks? Are they needed? Where is the best place to get one? Also, what is the recommended size?

You can get CR to order one for you... I believe they are a standard size for the most part... They just come in different filter sizes... 200 micron, 150 micron, etc... They are fine so long as you change them out regularly... They will catch the good with the bad... (detritus, copepods, amphipods, rotifers) Good for removing microbubbles...

Forgot to add that you don't have to use them 24/7... I don't... Usually only when blowing off rocks or trying to stir up and remove detritus... :)

same here. Only when I am working and I know that I will or am kicking stuff into the water column. Make sure that if you use them, change them out regularly. I like mine and it is a 200 micron I believe.

thanks for everyone's help. I was reading where some people use them 24/7 and have to change them out every few days. Others just use them at water changes. Sounds like they are a good thing to add to my maintenance items.

I use mine 24/7. I change them out every 3-4 and have about 10 in the rotation. They catch too much crap for me to feel good about not having them on.
