Fimbriated Eels, share your experiences

Hello,

I have setup a tank for a few of these guys (Gymnothorax fimbriatus).

Mine are very shy! They will come out to eat if I step away from the tank. If they get real hungry one or possibly two will come out to swim, but hide as soon as you come in the room. I am actually very disappointed by this behavior. Are they likely to get more used to people and become less shy? If not, I am thinking it's time to trade them in and get a more personable fish... I am willing to wait if their personality will eventually bloom, if not time to move on.

My past experience with assorted morays (black edge and so forth) was much more pleasant with them coming out to hand feed. You could actually interact with them (though they can be quite aggressive).

These guys have been here for over a month and are not getting any better at all!

Thanks in advance!

These eels can be very mean. I had one attack large fish (10", 12", stingray). Once they get larger they might lose that shyness and become aggressive. They are the most agressive eel I have ever delt with. I would be happy with the shy personality. Mine was also somewhere between 2.5 and 3 feet. Good luck with them!

Alrighty then... THanks for the heads up! I am not looking for the aggressiveness per se' I just prefer the outgoing personality.

Thanks again!
