So I've tried a few times over the last few years, but now I'm going to go through with it. I have a 40b, and that's it. I need a stand, sump, piping, skimmer, pumps, a lighting fixture, powerheads, and all the other good stuff.
I figure I should focus on the stand and the sump first, and go from there. I'm trying to figure out if I want to do a 20L or a 29. The problem with a 29 is the view will be sitting in front of the tank on a futon, which is fairly low to the ground. I'm worried that a 29 gallon sump plus skimmer height might pose an issue to a lower stand. I'm hoping to keep it under 30" max. However I would like a fuge, and I know the deeper 29 gallon would be better for fuge volume as well as overflow volume if the power goes. What would you guys recommend?
Also what kind of skimmer would you guys recommend? I want to save as much money as possible for fish and corals, while still getting decent enough equipment.
I guess I'll try and start figuring out lighting as well. Would a four bulb 36" T5HO fixture be enough? Or should I go six? I want to do a mixed tank and have enough light for most any coral that catches my eye. Thanks guys!
