finger leather question

Hey everyone! I got a finger leather that looks like a portion of it is melting down the side of the rock leaving what looks like marshmallow fluff behind itself. This doesnt seem like it could possibly be a good thing. Ive tested the water twice and it is fine. . Anyone have any ideas?

I've noticed with leathers they take much longer to acclimate to a new system than a lot of other corals--hard included. I've had a few take a few weeks to show polyps. I wouldn't worry about it much. JMO

Can you get a picture? What kind of leather is it (arboreal, toadstool, etc.)? Some leathers are notorious for closing up for weeks on end and looking 'chodded up' for lack of a better term (sorry...). Does tissue come off when you blast it with a baster? Keep any cyano algae off of it. That will cause it to rot. Sometimes a little extra flow can help, but they usually don't like a whole lot. Check alk and temp, as these seem to be the quick problem creators. May be nothing though, but a tempermental leather. Pics pics pics:).

is this a new leather you just got? Does it look like its melting or just really shrunken up. My leathers go through cycles. Very rarely do I see all looking good at the same time. Gary hit on one thing with the temp. Until i got a controler and could see my temp readings late at night while I was asleep I never knew how much my tank was actually dropping down. Ever since I have raised my heater to keep the temp more stable my leathers do alot better.

my Mumps likes a good rocking current. it didnt take off and grow till I got it some decent med current. I have had others seem to melt away and others that would do it for a week or two at a time. my mumps went for 4 weeks without opening. then all fo a sudden, BAM, and it is one of the highest placements in the tank. talk about prime real estate for a softie...

Unfortunately, I have no easy way to get a pic on here of it... It is almost purple in color. it has the little polypy bits all over it like a sinularia. It is small and doesnt seem to have much of a defined trunk part. looks like a cartoon version of dreadlocks...if that makes sense..
So the white was dead parts. Its like the ends of some of the branches stretched out and left little seemingly healthy bits from the end and died in between. As I was doing my water change I sucked out the dead part very carefully and left the rest that looks healthy. I have had the some A/C issues lately and it may get colder in here at night. I double checked my heater and will just watch and see how whats left does.
