finnex skimmer

Hey,

Setting up my 33 long as a permanent QT/holding tank

Was wondering if that finnex you have can be set up for hang on. Wasn't planning on a sump for this tank and need a cheap skimmer. Is there a way to make this work?

Hi,

You could use the finnex inside the tank as hang-on, but not outside hang-on. So if you have room to install inside the tank, works very well. Pretty decent little skimmer. We have 7 left i believe.

I had one problem with the finnex. The little clamp on the side of the skimmer isn't big enough to fit around the edge of the 20 gallon glass QT I bought. I currently have the it clamped to the side of the tank with a grip tight. Needless to say it is rusting away. But, other than that it is a good skimmer at a awesome price.

The pump on this skimmer is rusting, yes rusting after 3 weeks of use. The rust is starting to show where the power cord is coming out of the pump. I had a coral beauty angel in a QT with copper and the finnex skimmer. Last night before going to bed I did my rounds on the quarantined fish and noticed that the angel was acting very funny. It almost seemed like he was having seizures. He kept running into things and I thought he was a goner. I acted quickly and did a 50% water change, added as much carbon as I could, and removed the finnex skimmer.

I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t want to say the skimmer was totally at fault for this. I did have copper running and I did a 50% water change earlier in the day.

However, I can say that the skimmer is rusting and the fish were as far away from the skimmer as they possibly could be. I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t know if the pump was leaking electricity into the tank, but I wouldn't rule it out.

ouch, sorry to here that! I figured that the pump couldn't be of any great quality for the price. I will keep an eye on mine!

djpatter- what about swaping out the pump for a maxijet with venturi? I was looking at custom aquatics and they have a small needle wheel genx for $18 That would probably work great.

I received my skimmer today Thanks PA! THe body is great quality and it is skimming away after being on my tank for a short period of time. If the pump does flake out I will swap it out for something more reliable. It is a very easy diy to attach a new pump.
Nice cheap skimmer for a small tank.

funny thing is I just pulled the pump off and was thinking about how I was going to hook up another.

I have one of these skimmers on my 29 gallon, for about 2 months. I havent noticed anything, and man it makes great foam for 29 bucks.
