Fire at Jeff's

I stopped by Jeff's in Gardena today and walked in to the smell of an extinguished house fire. Turns out that one of the mh ballasts on his main display tank caught on fire up above his office. There were a bunch of boxes up there that were burning. He was able to contain it until the fire dept got there. Not much damage to the place but it sure makes you think about our own setups.

Ballasts, timers, powerstrips and flammables are not a good combo. This'll happen with some well used ballasts, and timers and strip don't last very well either.
I worry about fire more than anything as the main cause of a possible crash for my systems. In the past I had some major losses when a lower apartment in my apt bldg caused a chem fire. It smoked the place up, and I was battling RTN for days.
Hopefully this guy doesn't have major losses.

sorry to hear that. i really hope it doesnt happen to me but thats what insurance is for. i just finished my insurance and made sure to put a hefty lump under the "fish tanks" section.

i blew out my house ground wire after the piping for the sump got lose, this happen on sunday, i wasn't home at the time, water were everywhere, the diggital timer blew up because of the water (i can tell by the burnt mark), didn't have power to all the appliances in the house, but next day everything was fix
