firefish

Unfortunately they are not sexually dimorphic, it's impossible to tell male from female, size has no bearing. Best bet is to buy an established pair that hang out together.

ah well, i dont mind, since im looking at passive tankmates i figure it would just hover like a cardinaflish

Well, not really. Cardinal fish, being nocturnal, are not active during the day. Firefish are watching for food in the water column.

my firefish is pretty boring but atleast he out and about all day. i read that some jus hide in the rockwork all day.

it depends on the personality of the gramma. unless its constantly chasing them, IMO they would be fine. They should be the first fish, or one of the first, to be added to the tank though; IME it takes less time for them to get used to the tank that way.

Well mine dies in two days. They were swimming the first day and clicking together. Then the lights went out and they got spooked and darted intot he rock work. Never saw them again (sigh). But to answer your question the red/oragish ones school better in pairs of two (anymore and they tend to kill one another). The purplish ones dont really school at all and just do their own thing.
