First Corals

Hello everyone. I am getting my first corals tomorrow. I am getting some lower maintenance ones like zoas and xenia's. I know the basics to keeping corals, but I was just looking for any more tips to make sure that I keep my corals successfully. What to check in water parameters, any additives, or anything else you suggest that will be helpful to me and any other reefer that reads this. Thank you :)

im not sure xenia is a good one to start with.. Some will thrive in a tank then next one will die. They also tend to like higher nutrient water... For some reason i can NOT Keep one alive in my tank . I Have ended up with a few nice pieces buying "frag packs" online.

I would say Kenya Coral zoas mushrooms Gsp(green star polyps) yellow ones not so easy..
Some of the leathers are quite hardy as well....

But YES Stability . Calcium Alk and Mag... are the keys

Also do some research to the rate at which a coral can spread through your tank.

Don't be afraid of LPS. A duncan is a fantastic starter. Easy to frag. Accepts a pretty wide range of light and water params and its not going to take over the tank like mushrooms.

Agree...I started with LPS, I got a hammer coral...I get the most compliments on that coral and did little to nothing for it and it just keeps growing. Brain maze are good ones too...easy.
