First DSLR and quick pics......NEWB

Blue Thumb
Just got a Pentax K-X kit at about 2:00 pm and decided to snap some pics of our apartment building's doggy playdate 20 minutes thereafter. Shot on aperture priority mode (f/4) ISO 200 with the 18-55mm DA and 55-300mm DA kits lenses. These were done while feeling out the white balance going randomly from shade to light. All were hand-held shots. LMK what y'all think:

No post-production except for image resizing for the interwebs and a crop on the macro of the flower.

Here's a few more. My little girl is the tricolor mix.

**I did notice that longer focal points of the 300mm lens lended to a slightly harsh bokeh. Need to do some more tinkering.

pretty impressive if you're new to this. Great start. Afew images have the subject way oof to the side for me. Are you familiar with the rule of thirds? If not Google it. Simple but effective composition stratagy...but rules are made to be broken right? :)

Thanks for the compliment. I'm a firm believer in a "simple-ly effective" method and the Rule of Thirds is definitely an effective and basic compositional tool. I was just trying to tinker and tweak for the day. I ended up liking these shots a lot though. Hopefully, I will gain a better compositional intuition as I progress, right now I'm worried about learning aperture, shutter speed, W/B, and focus settings.

Nice kit and what a great start! I have the kx kit with me along with my k20d set up and its really nice!

Loving the small size and the ISO performance of the K-X. My Pentax-A 50mm f/1.7 is in the mail :celeb3:

I took this at school today. It was on my 55-300mm kit lens, max focal, macro mode, hand held. Only cropped and resized.
