First spawn?

I think my clowns may have just spawned for the first time. But, all I have to go on are clues as the spot they laid eggs in is a little cave in a piece of LR that I have that I cannot see every angle of.

The male has been dancing a lot more for the female today. Come back upstairs from dinner and they are both acting VERY oddly (darting back and forth, fins down, etc), taking turns guarding this cave, the female looks a bit thinner than what I remember her being when I went downstairs earlier, and all the male wants to do is go to sleep :lmao:. What does RC think? Are my clowns on the way to becoming ma and pa?

I currently lack any equipment necessary to rear the fry, but I plan on it in the future. If they are laying eggs now, it's an awesome bonus and will get them some practice before I can start practicing bringing the little guys up!

Next Thursday night turn off all pumps right after the lights go out and see if they hatch within the first 30 minutes or so. Put a led light up to the side of the glass. If they don't hatch, then try the next night. Should hatch within 7-10 days.

Then you may can put a tile or piece of terra cotta pot by the cave to see if they will start laying outside the cave.

Congrats! Most of the time getting the fish to spawn is the hard part. Hopefully raising them comes easily after this!

IMO after almost 3 years of attempting to rear the fry, and now finally having a bit of success, I would say that getting them to spawn is really the easy part! Lots of clowns provided they get proper nutrition and feelings of security in the tank will spawn quite easily. Rearing the fry takes understanding of how to raise rotifers, and brine shrimp. It also takes consistency in checking your water frequently. It takes good husbandry skills, rearing clowns requires frequent water changes and stability to include temperature stability!
