I saw my first fish with its stripe today! Does this mean it has gone through metamorphosis?

they usually go through meta around 5 days old. but yes yours is past meta.

your children are finally growing up:D congrats

Thank y'all! I've only seen about 2 with the white stripe! But most of them are orange.

Still have around 50+ fry

Hey Hunter, when your egg hatch did they hatch all at the same night? I have a batch that is on day 10 now still eggs, last night I did get about five fry and was only able to remove three of them (and they look good this morning). I still have a bunch of eggs unhatch hopefully tonight.

My eggs were on a little piece of rock so I was able to take mine out on the 8th day right before lights when out. Put them in the extra 10 gallon tank and turned the lights off. Went back around an hour and about 3/4 hatched and where I think I messed up was that I kept shining the flash light in there directly on the rock to see if they hatched. I waited about two hours and they still didn't hatch. So I decided to turn on the light for little ones to see and eat. On the 9th night I turned off the light for a little bit to see if they would hatched and never did.

I think where I messed up was shining the flashlight on them because if you shine light on them directly when its hatching night then they it will delay the hatching.

I would try again to see if there will be more and I'm sure you will have more babies!! I have heard of hatches splitting into to nights. Just be careful shining lights in there tonight unless you shine from top down not directly over the eggs.

If they are still looking good then you should be able to get more fry if they hatch! When they turn white and eggs look bad then take them out because it can mess with your water quality.

Ive heard Percs usually hatch 7-9 days and Occ. can take a up to 10 or 11 days

Thanks for the advise, I'm hoping they finish hatching tonight. Being that they have been laying the eggs on a large rock that has six BTA attached I am unable to remove that. I do have a piece of clay pot that I've broken to try and put it where they have been laying the eggs. (for next time).
