first time feeding with pellets

I found with the pellets I had more food sink and land on my sand bed. With the flake and frozen they eat more before it hits the ground. Do pellets tend to cause any problems because of excess

on a plus side my shrimp seemed to really like them

If that's the case for you, you might be overfeeding a little bit too much. Excess food in general will cause a problem in water quality, but as long as your shrimp(s) are finishing the leftover, then it should not be as bad.

IMO,Pellets are high in phosphates and should be used sparingly.Phosphate will feed hair alge or cyanobacteria.

I mix alternating nights

about 75 % frozen
25 % flake

now I just got some pellets to mix in as well

what food is low in phosphates.??

Pellets pack a lot of nutrition for your fish. I like Hikari Marine A, they hydrate quickly and sink slowly. Spectrum pellets are good too, but sink a bit faster. I just throw in a few at a time so the fish get them all.

Live foods will have the lowest amount of Po4.Frozen foods after rinsing the juices off is good.Flake foods are high as are pellets.IMO
