I will be making about 80 gallons of sw this weekend for the first time. Any tips for a first timer? I understand to use a powerhead, air pump and heater.

do i just add these to help dissolve salt completely, oxygenate the water for ph and heater for temp match?

any help appreciated.

Hey Jess,

You can do it with just a powerhead if you want. You only need a heater if there is a big difference in temps.

Put your water in a container and add the proper amount of salt.

Run the powerhead for 6-12 hours.

Test the salinity. Add water or salt as needed. You can check salinity again in a few hours.

I would let it sit with an airstone or powerhead at least 24 hours to let all the reactions occur. You may want to do a couple tests to see where the alk and calcium are.

thanks a lot for the help, I think it should be easy and i'll be overly cautious regarding the testing this first time.

thanks
