First Try

Okay, I know very little about cameras, basically point and shot. Be gentle, this is my first try. Can not figure out how to get the depth a little better in focus. Using a Nikon D40.

 Yeah right- you are shooting in RAW already! id say you have a thing or two under your belt.

Great photos- that fire digi shot is my favorite.

Shoot in manual mode and adjust your aperture to a larger number: ie f11 or f22 etc to gain a wider depth of field- or lower f-stops like f2.8 or f5.6 for action shots (w/ a narrower depth of field). The trick is to have enough light to be able to shoot at say f22 and not get blurred shots because of the longer exposure. SO- a tripod is typically a must if you want to shoot at higher f-stops imo!

hope this is of some help

klepto - Okay so shoot on the M button correct? Not sure how to change aperture, do I go to the A button and scroll the wheel (this is the stuff that messes me up).

Can you give me a brief explaination on how to do that on a Nikon D40.

Also, I do have a tripod but I havent used it yet. I usually takes about 100 shots and get 1 or 2 that are good and close to being in focus.
