Just figured you experts out there would know if this is a real peppermint hogfish. A LFS is selling them here as that

can't see images

I am going with the invisible hogfish ;)

Im going to have to disagree with you its clearly a photobucket hogfish

they are $120. Could it be a candy stripe hog? Its looks like a peppermint hog to me aswell, and thats what they say they are.

i can see it now and it looks like a peppermint but i'm no where near any kind of expert. looks good though

It's a peppermint or masuda hogfish. Bodianus Masudai

You can tell the difference from a candy stripe by the tail. A candy stripe has a solid red tail while the masuda has alternating red and white (like in your pic).

Great fish, very active and peaceful, but is easily bullied by lined wrasses and the like. Mine cruises mid tank and doesn't touch anything except the food I add (doesn't even eat pods/worms).

I would love to buy one of these guys but I heard and read the horror stories how they go after fairy wrasses. I have alot of high end fairy wrasses I don't want to see killed.

a few pics of him in his new home, posing with Aussie Duncans and shrimp checking him out. Got him for $60...good deal or what?
