fish growth questions

1. How long does it take fish to reach adult size in small tank (65g)? Does the tank size limit their size? Clowns, watchman, midas blennie for instance.
2. What is the best anemone to get for clowns?
3. Is there a general guideline on how many fish to have - number of inches per gallon like in fresh water tanks?
4. Is there any way to keep anemones from moving around? What is the best way to protect them from Koralia?
Thanks for taking time to answer questions.

1) Honestly, there are way too many factors to give a real answer -- how often the fish is fed, water quality, stressors, plus numerous other factors. IMO, you should buy a fish that will fit in your tank when it is fully grown, regardless how long that takes.

2) Depends on the species of clowns and the set up -- tank size, lights, flow, etc

3) X inches per Y gallons is an outdated rule -- doesn't take into account the fish body style, swimming style, aggressiveness, etc

4) Provide it with the conditions it requires (( differs with anemone species )) and it should stay put -- until my move, one of my S. Haddonis hadn't moved in 3+ years. If you are going to have an anemone, any powerheads should be covered.

The species of anemone you get will have a factor in how much it moves. I've had better luck with sand dwelling anemones like certain long tentacles. Ultimately if the anemone moving around is a problem in your tank you probably shouldn't get one.

I had a BTA that moved during the night right into a Koralia and got chewed up. THAT is my main concern. Moving over rocks or sand isn't.

An "unhappy" anemone is one that moves. Provide them the conditions they require, be it a sand dwelling, or rock dwelling one, and it should stay put. The only time an anemone has moved on me was because of something that I had done, never without a reason.
