Fish in Hypo

All - I've had all of my fish in a QT tank undergoing hypo for 4 weeks now. Had a ba case of ich. Question is all of the ich sports have dropped off all of the fish (and not reappeared) except for 1 fish. On my wrasse he still has some small white dots. Shouldn't they be gone after 4 weeks?

I'm planning on leaving them in hypo another 4 weeks, but Im concerned about the ich not dying off. I also know there is a limit to how long the fish can stay in hypo..

thoughts?

First and foremost: the fish should be QTd via hypo before signs of ich appear, But in most cases the ich visually disapears very quickly. Are you using a monitor to check the salinity level. You need to maintain a TRUE specific gravity of 1.009 or less. Depending on how elaborate, or simple the system is, will determine the difficulty in maintaining a consistant TSG. Next you will need to closely monitor PH, because it will want to drop rapidly as well, once you lower the salt content. I would also use at least two sources of temperature control. Make sure you feed the fish well while in QT, and keep the tank clean as possible. I leave my fish in QT for 10 weeks. I have never had a problem with this. I run a permanant QT system for fish and corals and have much experiance regarding different methods. I know how much time, money, and work go into properly QTing my livestock, but the end result is well worth it. here are some pics of my QT set up for corals and fish and hopefully it will give you a starting point.

I agree Joey, your tank setup looks awesome. Next time I'm in OC can I stop by?

Anyways back to the details. I have a refractometer which I have used to keep the salinity constantly at 1.009. likewise I have a Pinpoint pH monitor on the tank and it's been kept between 8.14 and 8.20 the entire time.

All of the fish are eating like pigs, but the wrasse in question has had a change in appeitte as he use to eat the mysis shrimp but now he favors flakes and pellet foods. All the other parameters are in check, but some spots (many have dissappeared) are still on the wrasse.

Thoughts?

Sorry for the delayed response guys, I just suffered through a horrible stomach virus followed by a kindey infection. Thankyou for the compliments, It was hard work to set up that tank station, but that was just the beginning. It is certainly a challange to take care of it on a daily basis. Here is a pic of the tank inside the house

Zigratt88, email me when your in the area, maybe we can trade some frags or something.

How is your wrasse doing. Does he still have visible spots. He has been in Hypo for close to 5 weeks now, and in my experiance I have never had a fish show any visual spots after 48 hours. I have heard of different strains of ich that are really tough, if not impossible to get rid of. With that said I would just continue to run Hypo and keep an eye on him. If he still has visible ICH spots after eight weeks, I would be reluctant to let a drop of water from that QT into my show tank, let alone one of the fish. Can you post a pic of your wrasse?
