Fish in the Overflow?

MyMonkey

Persona Non Grata
I have a lipstick Blenny that I just pulled form the external overflow 3 days ago. He is back there again. I suppose he is jumping over the edge into the first chamber.

The question is: Do I need to remove him immediately, or can I let him hang out in there for a bit. I might have to leave him in the sump after that.

The extraction was stressful I am sure. Any thoughts?

when i tore my last tank out, I have a 6 line in my overflow. I dont know how long he was in there. But i bought him about 6 months prior to the cascade adventure. He was fine, and is still kicking in my new setup

It won't hurt him to be in there a while. As for future protection, you might try some eggcrate over the overflow or something...

Had a false perc that took the "slide". Couldn't find him for 3 days, until I did a water change. He got pretty good at that trick (3 more times within a week). I finally left him in the sump for a couple of weeks.

Guess he got the message after that. BTW, the eggcrate fix works.

I like to put a piece of acrylic on the overflow box. Had a guy in Tulsa make a bunch that fit the Oceanic and AllGlass overflow boxes. He made them out of blue acrylic - that way fish don't jump over and I don't get any algae growth inside the box. Some tanks will grow hair algae in the teeth and inside the box - it eliminated that problem due to lack of light.
