Fish/Inhabitant Count

Is there any math to or listing of how many fish you can put into a tank? Say for my 90 gallon...is there a ratio for fish to gallon of water, a general number, or something like that? And do cleaner inhabitants such as snails, shrimp, and crabs count towards this overall number of inhabitants in a tank?

Thanks all.

There isn't. You'll hear "rules of thumb" thrown around, but you have to understand that certain animals demand more or less amount of space than others. For example, things like Tangs demand MUCH more space than something like a Yellow Watchman Goby. As far as invertebrates go, they should be taken into consideration, but at a very minimal amount.

I was always told that the cleaning crew and corals don't count towards the bioload, only the fish. It really does depend on the fish you want to put in there, size and type with standing.

Well my daughter says that I HAVE TO get at least a nemo and dory, so right off I am thinking one surgeon and two percula clowns, but I have not planned much past that. I am planning to take it very slow.
