fish question

I have a 10g nano (my 6y/o tank) that has a red scooter blenny, flame tail blenny and a clown goby plus 2 cleaner shrimp.small snails and hermits. my question is...is there a small voracious algae eater fish that stays small? getting hair algae. i was thinking of getting a very small yellow tang. until i get the 55g frag tank up then putting him in there. but i want something small that he can keep in his tank. any suggestions?

Just my thoughts I would never put a yellow tang in a 10 gallon no matter how small they poo way too much and will more then likely increase the hair algae couldn't you just do small water changes more often to get the levels in check I mean 1 gallon is 10 percent

Just my .02 but wouldn't adding another fish to this nano add to the algae issue?

Edit: Jeff beat me to it.

I agree with ya on the YT and i have been doing the water changes every other week i dont feed much cuz all the fish are an inch or smaller. all water levels are good. its not alot just its so shallow under t5's i dont want it to start getting outta control..

on that tank I would do a 1 gallon water change every other day till it gets up to par but thats just me

IMO if you are doing water changes every OTHER week, therein lays your problem. We have a 14g Biocube and do two 10% wc's weekly and we have a very small pr. of Percs and an inch and a half Val. Puffer.

Ok with all that aside and being in the post op condition im in a water change every other day is not feasable any fish suggestions? but thank you for all the other advice will put to good use..

I've definately spotted them there on occassion and can vouch any of the LFS will order one in for you if you ask. :)

yeah i heard about the allergy sorry..! have any idea on the price pm me if ya know... i found them online decent price.

I wouldn't count on the Rainfords eating large amounts of hair algae. They tend to pick at the rocks.

How about a big ol' turbo snail?

I wouldn't compare online fish prices to the LFS... they are usually close, but you are supporting a local business, not to mention the fact that you are assured he is healthy and eating before taking the fish home.

I would recommend a Turbo Snail or a small Algae "Lawnmower" Blenny. Adding some GFO or Chemipure might help as well. :)

I absolutly agree with you maybe i will just go with the turbos i have in there i dont have alot of HA. its just mostly in crevese's that i dont thing a turbo will b able to get to. i have a lawnmower in my 75g and hes huge. this is just a small 10g in my sons rm that i want to keep the fish to as small as possible. Thanks everyone for the advice i will c wat i can come up with.

oh and the flame tail would be agressive that type of fish? or vise versa?

i'd bet heavy 2 blennies in a 10 won't get along. tailspot do well in a nano, but hold their own w/the big boys /big tanks.

I already have 2 blennies in there now 1 goby everyone gets along fine.. but i am betting adding a 3rd would cause some conflict. thats y im gonna stick with the turbos.

agree with buying locally. last rainford I got online didn't eat well enough although I introduced most of it's natural foods and I haven't seen it in a while. otherwise I'd say increase water changes to weekly and maybe a phosban reactor. this way you don't overload the small tank. I also like the turbo snail idea myself.
