I have a 100 gallon long tank (72x18x18). current stock is
1 naso tang, 1 yellow tang, 1 kole tang, 1 orange shoulder tang, 1 flame angel, 1 potters angel, 1 clown fish, 4 bartletts anthias, 1 cleaner shrimp, and a full CUC. fully stocked with both SPS and LPS corals. i was wanting to add a melanurus wrasse for a small flatworm problem i recently have started seeing and was wondering if there was anyone who has had any experience with this type of wrasse interacting with any of the fish in my current stocking. all fish have been in my tank now for about a year and a half with no problems at all. thanks

wrasses..........

wrasses..........

a melanus wrasses is peaceful...should be fine....i do have to say thats alot of tangs in a 100 long....in my opinion....how are they doing as far as sharing the food is concerned....do they all get along?.....

A melanarus wrasse may eat your cleaner shrimp and your CUC. It depends on the individual fish.

The one we have is well behaved (has not eaten our shrimp and only some of our CUC), and he has been with clownfish and dwarfs angels with no problem. I have not tried one with anthias or tangs.

a melenurus wrasse should be ok for your tank... it's pretty peaceful and stays only around 4-5".

it's the tangs you should be worried about, long-term wise. an adult naso tang alone should be in at least an 8', 300 gallon tank to feel comfortable. along with three other tangs, your tank is very overstocked at this point. If they are small now then it should be ok for a couple of years, but just bear in mind that you'll need that 300 gallon tank when the tangs put on some weight.

Thanks everyone for the input and knowledge. I picked up my wrasse yesterday and he is already destroying the flatworms in my tank and so far everyone is doing great together. And I am already in the process of snagging up things for at least a 240 gallon reef tank for my next build. Mostly as a transplant tank for the bigger fish as they grow.
