has anybody had the situation that i have just returned home too??

I just returned home from a couple of hours shopping with the missus, when i looked in my tank almost all of my hermits were in one pile, on further inspection i noticed they were eating something blue? The only thing blue in my tank were a pair of damsels. I blew the hermits off with a turkey baster and could clearly see one of the damsels poking through a hole in the rock. When i reached in to get him out ( he was already dead, half eaten ) he was stuck in the hole...Now i thought has he been swimming through the hole and got stuck, then set upon by the hermits?

Are damsels realy that stupid?:( :( :(

What are your natural death experiences??

Im gonna bet that he died and was dragged into the hole byt he hermits. One greedy guy probably thought he could have a feast to himself and dragged the fish in. Another possibility is that the fish knew it was hurt or going to die and went in there to try and protect himself. If the fish swam in there healthy and got scared I think he would have forced his way out.
Sorry for your loss, but looks like its time for a new fish =)

I know what you are saying, but he was fine when we left, and stuck fast in the hole it took a fair bit of force to get him out, its just on eof them things i think. I will get another damsel, dont want his mate too feel left out.

Damsels can be territorial and mean. Most reefers dont like to keep them long turn as they can bother other fish and each other. I have had them kill shrimp and knock over corals. WHat size is your tank?

it is possible for a fish to get stuck -- - -it could have gotten spooked by something and gotten stuck in a hole - - - - i have had it hapen to me in one of my fresh water tanks when i was cleaning it!

sorry for loss
