What are some small fish that are reef safe. I wanted a bicolor blenny but I heard thet they nip at clam mantles and I also wanted a clown goby but they nip at SPS. I have also heard that fish only nip if they are underfed. I now plan to get a tailspot blenny but I dont know what goby to get. Any suggestions? Also please include any other small reef safe fish that I could get.

LOL there is realy NO way of telling accept for seeing them in action..... there are some fish considered reef safe but there is still no telling. Coral beauties for instance are considered reef safe. I have one that picks at every single coral i have.... on the other hand i had a coral banded buttefly that didnt pick, also had a clown trigger that was fish, reef and invert friendly..... witch in most cases is hardly ever heard of.

Anyways make a long story short i can give you a few names of Fish Considered to be reef safe.

Almost all Clowns/anenomy fish
.
Coral beauties are almost the only angle fish that is reef safe
Flame angles are for the most part reef safe but can be agressive to other fish.
Niger Trigger the only real reef safe trigger
Surgeons/Tangs Alot of tangs are reef safe, and probably the most beautiful fish IMO. Short list of popular reef tangs. Powder Blue, Powder Brown, Timiny, yellow, Purple, kole, unicorn, sailfin, scopas... etc. plenty of different tangs
Stay away from poisonous fish Scorpion fish, Lion fish. They can be beautiful but in general if something happens. Rock scape falls and they get smooshed or die, Their toxins can kill everything in your tank. Same goes for Poisonous inverts, witch there are alot of.

If you have a question about any fish you are interested in PM me. Or send a post on here there are tons of knowlegable people. Thanks =D

as far as gobies go they generaly stay close to the botom of the tank so if your clam isnt in the sediment it should be fine. I had a clown goby not too long ago and it never picked at anything of mine... Like i said u never know what your gonna get.

scooter blenny, watchman goby, fire blenny, lots of blennys and gobies. like i said before just watch the behavior of the fish you can tell agressive fish will chase others or nip at rocks ALOT

Just remember every fish can nip. No one knows what a fish is thinking. I learned to stay away from angels. Lol

believe it or not, all fish will eat corals depending on the state the corals are in...most "reef-safe" fish have been deemed so because they tend not to feed on corals in captivity.

it's good you're asking questions, it means you're doing your research...a good site to checkout is:

www.liveaquaria.com

it's the livestock site for drs foster and smith, a reputable place to purchase gear. all the livestock they list and sell has a max growth and care guidelines. it's a good place to start a list of what you might want to purchase.

what size tank will you be stocking?

A 20gal. I am thinking of having a tilspot blenny, yellow clown goby, and a yellowhead jawfish. I know the jawfish and blenny wil be fine but live aquaria says that the clown goby might pick on sps but I have not heard of this from people who have sps and a clown goby in the same tank. Anyone have a clown goby and can comment on this?
