Fish with lymphocystis in QT

I have three fish in QT with prazi and copper for 4 weeks.

One of the two pakistan butterflies (C. collare) has lymphocystis, but is eating and looks ok otherwise.

Would people go ahead and put the fish into the DT?

IME Lympho isn't contagious. Some claim that's not 100% accurate, that it's only rarely transmittable. In any case, I would wait at least another 5 weeks before adding to the DT to be 100% sure nothing bacterial comes up.

I agree with b0bab0ey on the lympho.
IMO, 4 weeks isn't nearly long enough a QT period. Parasites, like ich, can take much longer than this to emerge and become vulnerable to the copper.
Also, although its often done, the mfg of PP suggests that it not be used at the same time as copper---it decreases the effectiveness of the PP.

thanks. So, if the butterfly still has lymphocystis after its been in QT for 8 weeks you guys would put him in the DT?

It would be a tough call. On one hand, I believe (but have no scientific proof) that Lympho is the fish equivalent of herpes. It seems once they have it, it can always "flare up" every now and then. It never completely goes away and I'm betting stress is a factor. Transferring a fish from one tank to another can be a pretty stressful ordeal for them (territorial & hierarchy disputes with other fish) so I wouldn't subject the butterfly to that until he shows no symptoms. The stress from that could worsen the Lympho symptoms. On the other hand (playing Devil's advocate), one can argue that water conditions are generally better in a DT than a QT and that should help the butterfly recover quicker. But ultimately, I would wait because I value the lives of all the fish in my DT more than I do one fish (or several) in QT.

where is the infection? I had a queen angel back in the day when no one was reefing who had it on his tail fin, I netted the fish, took a razor blade & scraped it off, then used some iodine on the infected areas, worked great, fin grew back fine with no more issues. Just a thought

from my experience butterflies and angels number one are the ain candidates for contracting lympho, mainly due to stress and different water quality, the best way to rid the fish of lympho is to gently net catch it,lay it out on a soft cloth and gently scrape the white balls off the fishes fins, once u remove it u can treat the water with a product that regenerates tissue such as melafix and then maybe pima fix.if had great succes with this recipe.a little tlc goes a long way.

seems like alot of stress to treat something that almost never causes harm to the fish

Yeah, and that procedure also will remove the fish's slime coat. A fish can be handled with a WET cloth, preferably with stresscoat. Lympho is viral and will probably just grow back; time and great husbandry will almost always eliminate it. Patience.

well stated rome wasnt built over night, time and great water quality is always the key.

In the past I've done the whole scrape it off with a razor blade, then use iodine thing. It worked on some fish... But I think it actually freaked out and killed at least one or two. Cleaner shrimp will also sometimes eat the white stuff off and usually rip the fin in the process. My suggestion is to just leave it alone unless it's really, really bothering the fish. Because whether you see the white stuff or not, the fish's immune system still has to beat the virus.
