Fission skimmer

Two issues I'm having. One I need more filters for it and I can't find them anywhere. Anybody know where I can find them?

Second issue is that the pump has almost stopped producing bubbles. Anybody else out there have this problem? I've disassembled the entire thing and gave it a good scrubbing but it's still not producing. Ideas?

They are junk IMO, we wont order them anymore. Not sure where you can find parts you could try contacting current and seeing what they recommend. I think Phills coke bottel skimmer works better.

Yeh I know I modded one once, if you add an air pump it will increase it's efficiency but man those things are really a bad design.

I think Phills coke bottel skimmer works better. - I know it does. It will also out perform a sea clone, red sea prizm, and a lot of other skimmers on the market.

Hey Piper, no idea how big your nano is, but I remembered reading on Mark Levensons site about his nano, & how he kept the water clean. I dont know if this will help or not, but heres a link that he was posting a sort of diary in.

Like I said, not sure if it will be of any interest to you, but I thought it was interesting to read how much stuff he had in the pico, & how he kept it clean, his feeding, etc.

That's a nice looking tank.... Mine is 10 gallon and I have probably about a 1 gallon refugium on the back of it and a standard 10 gallon fish filter.

Are you sure the venturi isn't clogged somehow?

My 12 gallon is skimmerless and some might say the 20 is too since it has a modded seaclone on it :p
The 20 ran with no skimmer for a couple of years but I really prefer the "safety net" even a crappy skimmer gives you.
Without a protein skimmer you really have to stay on top of your water changes or other export.
I do weekly 3 gallon water changes on the 12 gallon. If I miss one it shows otherwise the tank runs great.

When the Fission was working how much skimmate did it actually pull out?

It would have to be emptied every day or every other day depending on how much I was feeding. It does have an overflow so you could hook up a hose and run it to like a milk jug or something.

On a 10 gallon I would suggest just doing water changes.

Of course what I would personally do is add a sump and throw a big ol'' honkin needle wheel skimmer on it
